Albemarle Algal Bloom Summit
Astrid Schnetzer and Emily Pierce presented “Toxic Cyanobacterial Blooms and Food Web Contamination in the Chowan River and Western Albemarle Sound,” highlighting critical issues such as anoxia, fish kills, and the socioeconomic impacts of harmful algal blooms (HABs). Held in November 2023, the Albemarle Algal Blooms Summit emphasized understanding HABs as a climate hazard while promoting collaborative efforts in outreach, research, and management strategies.
